The KIIT School of Public Health conducted a two-day workshop on “Systematic Review” on 6th and 7th November, 2023. The purpose of the workshop was to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct a systematic review on topics of their choice pertaining to health and social issues. The workshop covered various aspects of conducting a systematic review, including identifying research questions, refining review questions, establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria, searching and screening relevant databases, assessing the quality and bias of included studies, extracting and synthesizing data, and writing findings according to PRISMA guidelines. The workshop included lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on exercises.

Faculty members from KSPH, including Prof. (Dr.) Bhuputra Panda (Director), Dr. Pratap Kumar Jena (Assoc. Professor), Mr. Saumya Ranjan Pani (Faculty Associate), and Ms. Nishisipa Panda (PhD Scholar) conducted sessions on various aspects of Systematic Review.  Dr. Krushna Chandra Sahoo (Public Health Specialist) and Dr. Abhinav Sinha (Research Officer) joined all throughout as external experts from ICMR-RMRC, Bhubaneswar.  Master’s students from KSPH and Dental School, and PhD Scholars from Management School participated.

The workshop was a successful initiative that enhanced the students’ capacity to conduct high-quality systematic reviews on relevant public health, medical and social issues. The workshop fostered collaboration and networking among the students and the facilitators. The students also provided constructive suggestions for improvement, such as increasing the duration of the workshop, providing more examples and practice opportunities, and addressing specific challenges faced by the students in their own projects. The School of Public Health plans to offer similar workshops in the future to support the students’ academic and professional development.
