The KIIT School of Public Health (KSPH) organized a three-day exposure visit for its Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) students from November 15 to 17, 2023. The primary aim of the visit was to provide students the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the operations of the Primary Health Center (PHC), Community Health Centers (CHC), and District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) facilities in Khordha district. Additionally, the students participated in a Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) session during their visit to the DHH. The visit also sought to deepen the students’ comprehension of the challenges and prospects within the healthcare system across various levels of care.

The visit was organized with the assistance of KSPH faculty members and health officials from Khordha district. During the visit, students engaged with medical officers, health workers, ASHAs, ANMs, and other personnel at the facilities. They also observed the infrastructure, equipment, services, records, registers, data management, quality assurance, referral system, and community involvement at the facilities. Furthermore, the students critically assessed the cleanliness and hygiene practices at the health facilities. At the conclusion of each day, the students shared their observations, findings, and insights with both their peers and faculty members. They also deliberated on the strengths, weaknesses, and best practices observed at the facilities.

Subsequently, the students compiled a comprehensive report on their exposure visit, which was presented to KSPH. The report outlined the key takeaways, challenges, and recommendations derived from the visit. It also underscored how the visit enabled the students to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios and cultivate their skills in public health practice.
