The KIIT School of Public Health (KSPH) conducted a three-day workshop on “Qualitative Research Methods” from December 6th to 8th, 2023. The primary objective of the workshop was to augment the knowledge and competencies of the participants in the formulation, execution, analysis and interpretation of qualitative data for research related to health. The workshop drew attendance from KINS (M.Sc. Nursing students), KIDS (MDS students), and KSPH (MPH students).

The workshop encompassed a blend of lectures, deliberations, practical exercises, and collaborative activities. The sessions included fundamental concepts and principles of qualitative research, including the various types, objectives, and paradigms of qualitative inquiry, the role of the researcher, ethical considerations, and the criteria for ensuring quality and rigor. The discussions provided a platform for participants to exchange their experiences and viewpoints on qualitative research, as well as to raise queries and address challenges encountered in their own projects. The practical exercises and group work afforded participants the opportunity to hone essential skills in qualitative research, such as formulating research questions, devising sampling strategies, employing data collection methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups, observation), utilizing data analysis techniques (e.g., thematic analysis, content analysis, grounded theory), and presenting and reporting data. Faculty members of KSPH, including the Director of KSPH, led technical sessions in the workshop. External experts from RMRC and consultants also joined in some of the sessions to enrich the learning process.

The workshop garnered positive feedback from participants, who expressed their gratitude for the interactive and stimulating learning environment, the clear and comprehensive delivery of content, and the valuable and practical illustrations and guidance provided.
