Dr. Sudhir Kumar Satpathy is a renowned Public Health Specialist and Epidemiologist as well. He obtained MBBS Degree from V. S. S. Medical College, Burla, Sambalpur University in the year1972. He began his career in a pilot project at Mandwa (Alibag taluka), Maharastra State where the concept of Women Village Health Worker was first piloted to test its feasibility. There he developed interest and motivation for pursuing post graduation in Community Medicine.

In 1978, he obtained his Masters Degree (MD) in Preventive and Social Medicine from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). From 1978 till 1991 he worked as a teacher in Community Medicine/Epidemiology/ Public Health holding senior positions in renowned institutions in India like, JIPMER Pondicherry, AIIH&PH, Calcutta and on Foreign Assignment to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. In 1989, he obtained M. Sc Degree in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London.

From 1991 to 2007, Dr. Satpathy headed many Government of India national health programs like NACO as Additional Project Director, RNTCP (as ADG), Malaria (as Regional Director), Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) and National Rural Health Mission as Deputy Commissioner, MOH&FW, GoI. He also worked as Additional Director (Public Health) at National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Delhi, as Director of Central Health Education Bureau (CHEB) and Senior Advisor to Danida. One of his important contributions for NRHM is the Indian Public Health Standard (IPHS- first edition) and strengthening of health infrastructure up to district level.

Dr. Satpathy took voluntary retirement from GOI service to join as Director (Training), Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI),New Delhi. There after he worked as a Distinguished Professor and Head of Academic Affairs at Asian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar and also as Adjunct Professor for University of Nebraska Medical Centre, Nebraska, USA.

During his professional career, Dr. Satpathy has received special trainings in most of the contemporary issues in Public Health in various countries. He participated in many national and international workshops/ meetings and is an active member of many national and international professional associations. To his credit there are 34 published papers and reports. During his professional career he served in Odisha State three times.

Dr. Satpathy has joined as Director, KIIT School of Public Health, KIIT in June, 2015.
