July to August 2017

School of Public Health, KIIT launched Master of Public Health(MPH) & Master of Hospital Administration(MHA) course from the academic year 2017-2018 and onwards.

A welcome ceremony of Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) students of School of Public Health, KIIT, Bhubaneswar was held on 17th August 2017 from 11 AM – 12. 30 PM at Lecture Theatre 3, First floor, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Campus 5, KIIT, Bhubaneswar. The ceremony was attained by newly joined students, parents, faculties from the School of Public Health, Department of Community Medicine, Blood Bank, Management representatives and Dignitaries of KIMS and KIIT.

The welcome ceremony was presided by Dr Mrutyunjay Suar, Professor and Director, School of Biotechnology, KIIT. Other dignitaries on the dais were Prof. (Dr) B. C. Das, Advisor, KIMS; Maj. Gen (Dr) P. K. Patnaik, Medical Superintendent, Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital & Director Surgical & Allied Services, KIMS; Prof. (Dr) R. N. Rout, Head of the Department Community Medicine and Prof. (Dr) Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, School of Public Health. Among other dignitaries, Dr Panchanan Parida, Management Representative and Dr Niranjan Brahma, In-charge Blood Bank, Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital also attended the welcome ceremony.

The ceremony started with lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. This was followed by the welcome address by Prof (Dr) Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, School of Public Health, KIIT. In his deliberation, he highlighted the scope and prospect of public health as well as hospital administration profession. He advised newly joined students to work hard and prepare them-selves with necessary skills to become competent public health professionals and hospital administrators by end of the course. Prof. Satpathy thanked Prof (Dr) Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS, all the management and directors of various departments and schools, KIIT for their support in strengthening the school of Public Health.

Self-introduction of the newly joined students and the faculty of School of Public Health followed the welcomes address.

In his address, Prof (Dr) R. N. Rout, Head of the Department, Community Medicine highlighted the importance of public health, its broad domains as well as emerging public health issues India has been witnessing in recent past. He also emphasized regarding the opportunities that exist for collaborative initiatives between the department of Community Medicine and the School of Public Health. In his deliberation Maj. Gen (Dr) P.K. Patnaik, Medical Superintendent, Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital & Director Surgical & Allied Services, KIMS  highlighted the importance and role of hospital administrators in efficient and effective management of hospitals. He advised the students to nurture special management qualities and pleasing personality during their stint at School of Public Health, which will distinguish themselves from others in their professional arena.

In his address to the gathering, Prof (Dr) B.C. Das, Advisor, KIMS expressed his appreciation towards School of Public Health and thanked to the Director, School of Public Health for his effort in establishing the School of Public Health. In his address, Dr Mrutyunjay Suar, Professor and Director, School of Biotechnology highlighted the linkages between Public Health and Biotechnology and emphasized on wide range of career scope for public health and hospital administration professionals. He encouraged the students not to limit themselves within the class room setting and they should think and come up with innovative ideas supported with robust technology to address complex public health issue in a simpler and cost-effective manner. He expressed that department of Biotechnology would be happy to extend technical support in the domain of technological innovation in public health as and when required.  

The proceedings of the welcome ceremony were facilitated by Mr Himanshu Sekhar Pradhan, Associate Professor, School of Public Health, KIIT.

The welcome ceremony ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Kavitha A.K. Faculty Associate, School of Public Health, KIIT, Bhubaneswar.

  4. 22nd May, 2017 (6-8PM): Participated in the meeting of Non Communicable Disease (NCD) Alliance on "Success Factors for NCDs: Pathways to Accelerate Progress", at Intercontinental Hotel, Geneva, Switzerland.
  5. 14th - 15th June, 2017: Participated in AID and Development Asia Summit 2017 at Nay Pyi Daw, Myanamar.
  6. 17th - 18th June, 2017: Invited as a speaker, & spoke on India’s public policy guidelines on Seasonal Influenza Vaccination: a review in the “Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Policy Development and Implementation” Organized by Asia Pacific Alliance for Control of Influenza (APACI) and Chinese Preventive Medical Association(CPMA) at Beijing, China.

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, School of Public Health has participated in following National and international Meetings and Conferences:

1. January 4-5, 2017: Participated and chaired a Session in the workshop on Innovation in Sustainable Development at XIMB, Bhubaneswar.
2. February 10-11, 2017: Participated in Asia-Pacific Public Policy Network (AP-PPN) Conference, at Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
3. February 12 & 16 -17, 2017: Participated in 43rd Asia-Pacific Advance Network (APAN) Conference at India Habitat Centre , New Delhi organized by confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
4. February 13-15, 2017: Participated in the 8th South-East Asia Public Health Education Institutions Network (SEAPHEIN) Annual Meeting, at the Indian Institute of Health Management Research – IIHMR, Jaipur, India supported by WHO-SEARO.

5. February 21, Participated in VBD review meeting at NHM conference room Bhubaneswar held under the Chairmanship of Dr Arun Panda, Addl. Secretary & Mission Director, NHM, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India.

Visitors:
• A 4 member Team from TB REACH (Tuberculosis Call to Action) from New Delhi headed by Ms. Anupama Srinivasan, Dy. Project Director (TBC2A) visited School of Public Health (KSPH), KIIT on 14th February, 2017 to explore the possibility of TBC2A partnership with KSPH.

• Dr A. C. Dhariwal, Director, National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India along with The Regional Director, ROH&FW, Odisha, Bhubaneswar visited School of Public Health (KSPH), KIIT on 21st February, 2017.

• Ms. Vandana Nair, Dy. Director, MAMATA, Health Institute for Mother and Child, Odisha State Office, Bhubaneswar visited School of Public Health (KSPH), KIIT on 25th February, 2017 to explore possible collaboration for joint research projects.
